How to

Messaging your team

Follow these steps to start communicating with your team through Rundeck's built-in messaging.

Open the Messages page

From your dashboard, click 'Messages' in the top navigation bar. You'll see all your existing conversations listed with the most recent messages and unread counts. Conversations are sorted by most recent activity.

Create a new thread

Tap 'New message' to start a conversation. Choose from three types: Direct message (one-to-one with a staff member), Group thread (select multiple people), or All-staff broadcast (reaches every team member at once).

Send messages

Type your message and hit send. Messages are delivered instantly. You can also share images, files, or links. Group threads keep everyone in the loop — great for shift handover notes or location updates.

Receive push notifications

Every message triggers a push notification on the recipient's phone so nothing gets missed. Staff can tap the notification to open the conversation directly. Notifications can be customised — mute threads or set quiet hours.
